Sacramento Roller Derby is participating in the Big Day of Giving: May 2, 2019! to raise funds for a new home. To help raise funds we are hosting a pop-up skate-a-thon at the cement slab at the corner of Sutterville and Freeport in William Land Park on May 2nd from 6-8 PM.

We welcome you to join us as we skate our laps and maybe even help raise some funds yourself. This will be a casual paced rink style skate with some fun hijinks! This is a BYOS (bring your own skates) event and is super hero themed so show up up in your finest superhero attire.

Why superhero themed? Every week over a hundred participants enter our doors and emerge stronger, more confident, and enriched. Sacramento Roller Derby offers more than 30 hours of programs where participants learn to move obstacles out of their way, test the limits of their abilities, and take up space, just like superheros.

Sacramento Roller Derby will be holding open tryouts for skaters 18+ of all levels on Monday, April 29th. These tryouts are open to new skaters (no skating skills required!), returning skaters, and potential transfer skaters. Skaters will have a meet and greet with coaching staff and be given information about our league and then will go through a series of basic skating drills. At the end of the tryout coaching staff will give each skater a placement in one of our training programs or our team level program. It is not required to tryout to join Roller Derby 101 (formerly known as rec league) but skaters wishing to join our advanced training program or join the league teams are encouraged to tryout.

 We encourage skaters to bring any gear they have (helmet, knee pads, wrist guards, elbow pads, and skates), but there is plenty of loaner gear available as well. Don't forget to bring your own mouth guard and water!

Sacramento Roller Derby is proud to host Miracle Whips for a roller derby skills clinic! This clinic is open to all skaters 18+ who have passed their MSRs. Attendees can expect to learn jammer, blocker, and offensive skills. Cost is $25.

Miracle Whips skates for the Montréal New Skids on the Block and Team Canada. She has played at 4 D1 Playoffs and will attend her 3rd Champs this year. Whips is sponsored by Riedell, S-1, and Frogmouth.

Looking for a fun summer break activity? Join us for rec league and see what roller derby is all about! This course is fun and safe for beginners and is open to kids of all genders, ages 8-17. This session begins June 24th and last 8 weeks. New skaters can join the first three weeks of the session. Rec League classes are held Sunday afternoons from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at our practice headquarters, 1501 N. C St, Sacramento. The classes focus on teaching new skaters the basics of roller derby and roller skating which include safety, stops, skating form, endurance, skate maintenance, and rules. 

The cost is $10.00 per week. A discounted rate is available if paid for in full by the end of the first class. Payment can be made here or in person. 

We encourage skaters to bring any gear they have (helmet, knee pads, wrist guards, elbow pads, and skates), but there is plenty of loaner gear available as well. Don't forget to bring your own mouthguard and water!
